Number of New Year’s Eve Fatalities Drop in 2024

New Year’s Eve celebrations were in full swing in Columbia, as people all across town watched the ball drop and welcomed in 2024. Many people spent their evening at parties or in bars, drinking, eating, and celebrating, as they do at the end of every year.

While New Year’s Eve festivities are fun, they can often make way for dangerous behavior. The National Safety Council reports that they see an increase in car accidents and fatalities around each holiday, and New Year’s Eve is no different. There is good news to share, however, as the NSC saw an 8% decrease in fatalities between this year and the previous year.

That does not mean that Columbia roads were clear of impaired drivers and unsafe driving, however. A recent report from KOMU stated that there were 115 car accidents in the state over the holiday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol also wrote tickets for 139 DWIs. Unfortunately, there were five deaths and 59 additional injuries in the state. Still, this was a huge decrease from the amount of car crashes that happened last year.

For the Missouri residents injured, however, this probably doesn’t feel like a great accomplishment. They’ll have to face an expensive road to recovery, but with the help of a personal injury lawyer, they could receive a settlement for their pain.

If You’re Injured, Get a Car Crash Lawyer

In Missouri, you can receive financial compensation when someone’s negligent or carless actions result in your physical injury. The process of filing a claim can be long and difficult. Oftentimes, the opposing party will want to avoid going to court over the issue. Other times, you may have to bring up the facts of your case to a judge. No matter what direction your car accident’s claim takes, it would be impossible to do without a car accident lawyer on your side.

Your lawyer can help you through every step of the process, from filing paperwork to collecting evidence and everything in between. They can even handle the communications between the other driver and their insurance company, so you can focus on your recovery.
